The act and power of doing

Don’t think about making art, just get it done.
Let everyone else decide if its good or bad, whether they love it or hate it.
While they are deciding, make even more art!

What is not doing?

I’m the first to admit I love a To Do list, planning or making a schedule. I also love talking about ideas and projects. Oh the wonderful possibilities and potential of the thing not yet complete. They remain perfect in my mind’s eye and remain that way for as long as there is nothing in existence that proves otherwise.

THIS IS A TRAP!

Don’t fall for it. Planning, scheduling, talking, imagining are all not doing. The magic is when you see past this and do the thing. Consistently and without fanfare, a quiet determination to bring something into the world.

It won’t be perfect, it probably won’t yet live up to your standards or taste. But most importantly it will be done!

Other things that aren’t doing the thing.

So go and do the next step no matter how big or small, today. There is no perfect time, there is only now.

It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.
